The Blend

What's in the glass, and why.

Crafted from 70% Chardonnay drawn from the best Crus of the Cote de Blancs and 30% Pinot Noir, La Piu Belle Champagne 2009 is a millesime of exception. The Chardonnay leads with freshness and precise minerality, while ripe, concentrated Pinot Noir brings complexity and richness to the blend.

Terroir

Where the ground does the work.

La Piu Belle Champagne is the one VIK wine whose ground is not Chilean. The Chardonnay is drawn from the best Crus of the Cote de Blancs, chalk country whose soils give the variety its precise minerality, and the wine is raised in the D.O. of Ay in the heart of Champagne. The same pursuit of terroir that led VIK to Millahue led it here.

Barroir

How time shapes the wine.

Vinified in stainless steel vats and aged twelve years in chalk cellars in Ay before release, with a dosage of 5 g/L. The long maturation trades youthful sparkle for depth, texture, and a maturity few vintage champagnes reach.

Vintage

What the year gave.

2009 was a particularly warm year in Champagne. A restful winter gave way to a sunny, dry spring that held all summer, producing smaller grapes with far greater concentration of aromas. Chardonnays harvested early kept their freshness and precise minerality, while ripe Pinot Noirs brought richness, and together the season created an exceptional Cuvee.

Pairings

What to put beside it.

La Piu Belle Champagne 2009 opens a night on its own and holds its place through oysters, caviar, and roast chicken alike. Twelve years of maturity give it the depth to carry a whole meal, not just the toast.
